Martyn’s first show with the Phoenix Players was Alice in Wonderland in 1981. Since then he has played a wide range of parts, including Max Miller and Adolf Hitler in Happy as a Sandbag, Mr Toad in Alan Bennett’s The Wind in the Willows and the eponymous hero in The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾.
His favourite playwright is Alan Ayckbourn and has enjoyed playing various roles in his plays. They include Guy in A Chorus of Disapproval, Bill in Woman in Mind and Paul in Absent Friends. Perhaps the role he is most attached to is Tom, the shy and bumbling vet he played in Round and Round the Garden and Living Together, two of the plays from the ever-popular trilogy The Norman Conquests.
Aside from the Phoenix Players, Martyn has also appeared with the Lincoln Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society, playing Doc in West Side Story.
